Alvin Ailey Biography:- Alvin Ailey was an American choreographer and dancer. The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater was founded by him. He founded the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center and the AAADT as a refuge for growing Black artists and utilizing dance to portray the human experience. He also identified as gay and developed his art, which mixed theatre, modern dance, ballet, and jazz with Black language. It produced inspiring choreography that has continued to raise global awareness of Black life in America.
The United States Congress designated AAADT as an “essential American cultural ambassador to the World” on July 15, 2008. In commemoration of AAADT’s 50th anniversary, then-Mayor Michael Bloomberg designated December 4 “Alvin Ailey Day” in New York City.
Alvin Ailey’s Death Cause
Ailey died from an AIDS-related illness on December 1, 1989, at the age of 58. He asked his doctor to announce that his death was caused by terminal blood dyscrasia to shield his mother from the stigma associated with HIV/AIDS.

Who is Alvin Ailey
Alvin Ailey is recognized as one of the most influential choreographers in modern dance history. He created the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in 1958 when he was just 27 years old. Ailey’s vision was of freed-up Black people brimming with emotion and confidence. sadness, joy, pride, beauty, and possibilities. Growing up in Jim Crow Texas, Ailey was raised by a single mother who struggled to care for him.

After they moved to Los Angles Alvin enrolled at George Washington Carver Junior High School and did his schooling at this school. He completes his graduation from Thomas Jefferson High School.
Alvin Ailey’s Personal Life
Ailey hated the label “Black choreographer,” wishing to be known simply as a choreographer. He was very secretive about his personal life. Despite being gay, he kept his love relationships hidden. In 1980, Ailey had a mental collapse as a result of the loss of his friend Joyce Trisler, a failed romance, and spells of severe drinking and cocaine usage. Judith Jamison was the co-director of AAADT during his recuperation.

Alvin’s mother was working in a cotton factory due to financial crises. He grows up with watch night dance and practicing his entire life. In his childhood, he face many problems but they made him strong. In 1941 his mother moved to Los Angles for a job.
Career
In 1953, he joined Horton’s dancing group and debuted in Horton’s Revue Le Bal Caribe. Horton died abruptly in November of that year of a heart attack, leaving the organization without leadership. Ailey took over as creative director and choreographer to finish the organization’s pressing professional obligations, and because no one else was willing to. Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater was created in 1958 to promote Ailey’s mission of respecting Black culture through dance.
Ailey’s most famous and highly praised work, Revelations, was revived at the 92nd Street Y in 1960. Ailey relied on his “blood memories” of growing up in Texas surrounded by Black people, the church, spirituals, and the blues to create Revelations. Ailey established the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center in 1969, with Pearl Lang, principal, and choreographer of the Martha Graham Dance Company, as his co-director. In 1999, the institution was renamed The Ailey School. After a few years, the school relocated to The Joan Weill Center for Dance.
