He was born on January 5, 1963, in Kano State’s Gaya Local Government Area. He is the son-in-law of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, a former Kano State governor and NNPP leader. From 2011 to 2015, he was the Commissioner of Works, Housing, and Transport in Kano State during Kwankwaso’s administration. He ran for governor under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in 2019 but lost to Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of the APC in a contentious supplemental poll. Career
Between 1999 to 2003, he worked as a personal assistant and then as a special assistant to Kano State Governor Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso. From 2003 through 2006, when Kwankwaso was named Minister of Defence, Abba worked with him again. He served in Darfur/Somalia as a Special Assistant to the Special Advisor to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria until 2007. Abba was also nominated to the Governing Board of the National Institute for Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA), Ondo State, by late President Umaru Musa Yar’adua from 2009 to 2011. Abba was appointed as the governor’s First Principal Private Secretary (PPS) during Kwankwaso’s second term, and then as the state’s Commissioner for Works, Housing, and Transport.

Abba was rumored to have requested a thousand naira donation from members of the general public in September 2022 to support his campaign. In a statement released to the media by his assistant, Sanusi Bature, he rejected the rumor. He stated the “misinformation” is an attempt to smear his principal’s reputation. “We desire to warn the good people of Kano State, particularly supporters of our great party, the NNPP, to reject the substance of the film as a simple campaign of calumny planned by certain ill-behaved persons inside the opposition political circle,” Mr. Bature said in the statement.
