Eusebius McKaiser was born in Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa on March 28, 1978. He attended St Mary’s Primary School and Graeme College, where he graduated in 1996. From 1997 to 2003, he attended Rhodes University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in law and philosophy, an honors degree, and a master’s degree in philosophy with a thesis on moral objectivity. Between 2005 to 2006, he was a Rhodes Scholar at the University of Oxford, where he did Ph.D. research in moral philosophy under Ralph Wedgwood and John Broome. In addition, he was an Oppenheimer Memorial Trust Scholar.

McKaiser went on to serve as an associate consultant at McKinsey & Company before becoming a political and social analyst at the Wits Centre for Ethics and the University of Johannesburg Centre for the Study of Democracy by 2012. His first radio show at Radio 702 was Politics and Morality, a weekly late-night talk show. Until 2011, he hosted the SABC 3 current affairs show Interface, and he afterward hosted 702’s Talk@9 broadcast on weeknights. He began as the host of Power Talk, a three-hour weekday morning talk show when Power FM debuted on June 18, 2013.
He departed Power FM in October 2014, allegedly due to irreconcilable differences with the station, and returned to Radio 702 in July 2016, taking over from Redi Thlabi with a weekday morning chat slot.
McKaiser had “etched himself on the national psyche” with his radio work by 2013, according to the Mail & Guardian. Pumla Dineo Gqola subsequently stated that his Eusebius McKaiser Show on 702 “shaped everyday dialogue and, with it, the culture of our time,” and praised McKaiser’s “heartbreaking, illuminating, and often joyful intellectual work.”McKaiser departed Radio 702 in June 2020 because the broadcaster was unwilling to devote sufficient resources to the production of his show.
