On January 29, 1982, Daddy Owen was born in Kakamega, Western Kenya. He is the second child of four brothers, all of whom are musicians, and a sister. Rufftone, his elder brother, is a gospel musician whom Daddy Owen describes as “my inspiration.” He graduated from Eshihiru Secondary School but was unable to attend a postsecondary institution owing to financial limitations. As a result, he had to fly to Nairobi to work as a matatu tout. The revenue he made from this profession was insufficient to meet his and his family’s requirements.

Career

Owen began singing while still in high school but was unable to get into the spotlight due to a lack of funds to record his songs due to his impoverished upbringing. He does, however, attribute his success to his family’s financial, spiritual, and emotional support, notably his brother Rufftone and the late gospel performer Kaberere, whom he has often referred to as his mentor. Haijalishi, Daddy Owen’s debut album, was released in 2004. Some of his best-known songs are “Mbona,” which he co-wrote with Denno, “Foundation,” “Tobina,” “Kazi ya Msalaba,” “Saluti,” and “System ya Kapungala.”

He is now a part of the Nairobi Assemblies of God’s praise and worship team. Saluti, System ya Kapungala, Son of Man, and Haijaisha are Daddy Owen’s four albums. From 2009 to 2011, he was named Groove Awards male artist of the year. His song ‘Saluti’ received three Groove Award nominations and went on to win all three. Mwatia is a prominent Lingala musician. He founded Malaika Awards, a charitable organization for the disadvantaged. Daddy Owen founded the Malaika Awards, which attempt to recognize artists with impairments. He also started the “Macho Macho” campaign (see Fred Hollows Foundation and Macho Macho campaign) to help poor individuals with eye issues in Kakamega.

Daddy Owen’s Second Chance Campaign, founded in 2012, provides spiritual and financial assistance to cancer sufferers around the country, raises cervical cancer awareness, and encourages women to seek cervical cancer screening services.

Daddy Owen Wife

On Saturday, 2 April 2016, the award-winning artist married the love of his life, Farida Wambui Kamau, at the Kenya Assemblies of God (KAG) church in Buruburu. Dr. Ofweneke and Dunco served as emcees for the beautiful invite-only event. Popular personalities gathered, and Mercy Masika and Sauti Sol performed brilliantly.
