Dhruv Jurel was born on January 21, 2001, in Agra, Uttar Pradesh. His father, Nem Singh Jurel, was a Havildar in the Indian Army and participated in the Kargil War. His mother, Rajni Jurel, is a homemaker, and he has one elder sister, Neru Jurel. He attended Army Public School, Agra. His father wanted him to study hard, pass the National Defence Academy entrance test, and become an army officer; nevertheless, he has been interested in athletics since he was a toddler. When he was in eighth grade, he went to a 60-day sports camp and planned to take swimming lessons; nevertheless, he observed several boys playing cricket and joined a cricket camp without informing his parents.

He was then picked for the Uttar Pradesh Under-14 squad and appeared in three matches of the 2015 Raj Singh Dungarpur Trophy, scoring 152 runs, including 137 in the final against Madhya Pradesh. In 2015, he was picked for Uttar Pradesh’s Under-16 team and competed in the 2015-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy. He was picked for the Uttar Pradesh Under-19 team in 2018 and competed in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy in 2018-19 and 2019-20.
