Early Life: – Simmonds was born in Walsall and raised in the Aldridge Metropolitan Walsall Borough. She attended Cooper and Jordan CofE Primary School for her primary schooling before moving on to Aldridge School and then Olchfa School in Swansea. Simmonds, who has achondroplasia, began swimming when he was five years old.
Simmonds swam for Boldmere Swimming Club in Sutton Coldfield, but she and her mother relocated to Swansea when she was 11 years old to take advantage of the city’s world-class swimming facility. She has a brother and three sisters. She earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Loughborough University in England.
Professional Career: – Simmonds competed in the 50m, 100m, and 400m freestyle, 50m butterfly, and 200m Individual Medley at the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing as the youngest British athlete. In the 100m and 400m freestyle events, she earned gold medals.
Simmonds won gold in the 400m freestyle on September 1, 2012, at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London, when she shaved five seconds off the World Record time.
