Ike Ekweremadu’s political career began in Enugu State when he was elected Chairman of the Mpu Town Union. He was then elected Chairman of the Aninri Local Government Council. Ike Ekweremadu was elected to the Senate for the first time in 2003. On the Peoples Democratic Party platform, he was elected to the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to represent the Enugu West Senatorial District.
