Early Life:- Jill Dando was born in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, at Ashcombe House Maternity Home. She was born to Jack Dando and Winifred Mary Jean Hockey, who died of leukemia when she was 57 years old. Dando was reared as a fervent Baptist and has remained such throughout his life. On January 12, 1965, she underwent heart surgery. Nigel (born 1952), her only sibling, worked as a journalist for BBC Radio Bristol before retiring in 2017, after working as a journalist in local newspapers since the 1970s. Dando attended Worle Infant School, Greenwood Junior School, Worle Comprehensive School, and Broadoak Sixth Form Centre, where she was the top girl and graduated with two A-levels. She went to Cardiff’s South Glamorgan Institute of Higher Education to study journalism.
Professional Career: – Dando’s first employment was as a trainee reporter for the Weston Mercury, a small weekly newspaper where her father and brother also worked. She began working for the BBC after five years as a print journalist, becoming a newsreader for BBC Radio Devon in 1985. Jill moved to BBC South West the next year, where she hosted Spotlight South West, a regional news magazine show. She began her career in 1987 with Television South West, then moved on to BBC Spotlight in Plymouth. Dando hosted the BBC television shows Breakfast Time, Breakfast News, BBC One O’Clock News, BBC Six O’Clock News, Holiday, the criminal appeal series Crimewatch (from 1995 till her death), and Songs of Praise on occasion. She relocated to Fulham in 1994.
