Kanchan Verma was born on September 3, 1977, in the Uttar Pradesh district of Etah. Her father was a teacher, and she comes from a middle-class household. She attended Saraswati Vidya Mandir in Etah before graduating from Dayalbagh Educational Institute in Agra with a degree in Sociology. Kanchan also has a Bachelor of Education from the same university. She had a lifelong interest in civil services and chose to prepare for the UPSC test after finishing her degree. In 2004, she passed the test on her first try and finished 1210th on the All India Merit List. She picked IAS as her first preference and was assigned to the Uttar Pradesh cadre.
Career
Kanchan joined the IAS in 2005 and completed her training at Mussoorie’s Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration. She also finished her district training in Bareilly, where she served as the SDM of Nawabganj from 2006 to 2007.
