Career
Muntashir has penned the lyrics for various Hindi film songs, including “Galliyan” from Ek Villain, “Tere Sang Yaara” from Rustom, “Kaun Tujhe” from M.S Dhoni: The Untold Story, and “Dil Meri Na Sune” from the film “Genius”. He has collaborated with artists like M. M. Keeravani, Arijit Singh, Ankit Tiwari, Jubin Nautiyal, Amaal Mallik, Arko Pravo Mukherjee, B Praak, Rochak Kohli, Himesh Reshammiya, and many others. He has expressed worries about song and script writers receiving credit. His lyrics for “Phir Bhi Tumko Chaahunga” (2017), a song that received over four million views pre of its formal release, were originally compiled for his wife in 2001.
When he didn’t get credit for the song, he said he didn’t “know why certain people can’t accept an age-old fact that lyricists have an equal amount of contribution in making a song successful.” He tweeted his dissatisfaction after being nominated for the 2020 Filmfare award for best lyrics for the song ‘Teri Mitti’ from the 2019 film Kesari. Muntashir has received National Film Awards for best lyrics in the film Saina. He has written screenplays for Indian Idol Junior and India’s Got Talent.
Muntashir authored the Hindi dialogues for Baahubali 2, dubbing the sentences in Hindi to match the Telugu lip motions. He was afterward asked to do the same for the Hollywood film Black Panther. Meri Fitrat Hai Mastana is the title of his book.
Controversy
He created the script for Om Raut’s film Adipurush. The film’s speech was critiqued for being too lighthearted or unserious, and for using modern-day terminology and vocabulary in a setting from centuries ago. Lines such as ‘jalebi tere baap ki,’ ‘teri bua ka bageecha hai kya,’ and ‘Lanka laga denge’ said by mythological figures with religious importance did not sit well with many viewers.
One of the movie’s lines, which refers to Sita as “Bharat ki beti,” has sparked outrage in Nepal. This is because Sita is thought to have been born in Janakpur, which is now in Nepal. Although the filmmakers decided to remove that specific speech from the film, another incorrect comment about Nepal’s sovereignty enraged the Nepalese people even more. In an interview with Aaj Tak, Manoj attempted to reject Nepalese claims by mistakenly asserting that Nepal was a part of “Bharat” till 1904 and that it separated from “Bharat.” Manoj has been accused of falsifying historical truths, prompting calls in Nepal for a ban on all Hindi films.
