Career

Martin began his professional life as a lawyer and businessman. He worked in a variety of businesses, including construction, real estate, mining, and transportation. From 2007 until 2013, he also entered politics, serving as the Barangay Captain of San Antonio, Quezon City. In 2010, he was chosen president of the Liga ng mga Barangay sa Pilipinas (Philippine League of Barangays). Martin Dio ran for president in 2015 under the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), the party of then-Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte. He then dropped his candidature and backed Duterte, who went on to win the 2016 presidential election. In September 2016, Duterte named Martin Dio as chairman of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA). After a disagreement with SBMA Administrator Wilma Eisma, he resigned in October 2017.

Diño was appointed as an Undersecretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) in November 2017, where he was in charge of local government matters.
