Mike Tirico was born in Whitestone, Queens, New York City, New York, USA, on December 13, 1966, to an Italian-American mother and an African-American father. He grew up in Queens, New York, and attended Bayside High School. Tirico moved on to Syracuse University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in communications in 1988. He obtained considerable expertise in sports broadcasting while working for the student-run radio station WAER at Syracuse. He was the first recipient of the Robert Costas Scholarship at Syracuse.

Career

In 1991, Mike began his professional career as an ESPN sportscaster. He was ESPN’s first sportscaster. Mike Tirico has also presented studio coverage of many ESPN and ABC shows, including ESPN’s Monday Night Countdown. He then anchored the US Open (tennis) in 2009 and co-anchored the 2014 FIFA World Cup and 2016 UEFA Euro. This was his final position at ESPN. On May 31, 2017, he permanently succeeded Al Michaels as the NBC Thursday Night Football play-by-play analyst.
