Natasha Akpoti was born on December 9, 1979, in Lagos, Nigeria, to a Nigerian father and a Ukrainian mother. Ludmila Kravchenk, her mother, is a Ukrainian from Rakitna in the Chernivtsi area. Dr. Jimoh Abdul Akpoti, her father, is from Obeiba-Ihima in Kogi State. Her early years were spent at Ihima, Okene Local Government. Her father died in 1998, and the family was forced to migrate. Career
Natasha Akpoti joined Brass NLG as a legal counsel after graduating from the Nigerian Law School in 2007. She founded the Builders Hub Impact Investment Programme (BHIIP) in 2015. She rose to prominence after submitting an investigation report on fraudulent practices at the Ajaokuta steel factory before the National Assembly on March 1, 2018. The study she presented revealed the repeated squandering of government funds and theft since the steel mill’s original construction, which has remained dormant despite many attempts to restart it.
The study was, however, rejected by the Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development, and Akpoti was accused of intentionally misleading the House of Representatives. An organization of small-scale steel merchants also claimed Akpoti was waging a paid campaign to defame the government and reward certain corporate interests. A High Court in Abuja ruled that the proprietors of Authority newspaper, Ifeanyi Uba and Williams Orji, pay Natasha Akpoti ten million nairas in damages for their libelous publishing against her. Natasha Akpoti expressed her desire to compete for the seat of Senator for Kogi Central in the Nigerian Senate on the Social Democratic Party (SDP) platform in 2018.
