Ski Johnson founded Wide-A-Wake Records with Larry Toye and Malcolm Alexander in 1988, while still a student at Howard University, and published his debut album, “Ski Johnson and Friends on the Rise.” Among others who performed were Grammy-nominated pianist Marc Cary and others. The album became an instant hit, airing on over 400 radio stations throughout the country.
