During the 1967–68 undergraduate season, Haywood averaged 28.2 points and 22.1 rebounds a game at Trinidad State Junior College in Trinidad, Colorado. Haywood was selected to the USA Olympic Basketball squad in 1968 as a result of his exceptional performance and athleticism, and he was the championship’s youngest player.
Haywood recorded 16.1 points a game for the United States’ gold-medal won basketball team at the 1968 Olympics, and he set the USA shooting percentage record of.719.
He did schooling at Pershing High School and he led the team of his school.
