Thapar was a Maratha Light Infantry officer who led a battalion of Jammu and Kashmir Rifles. His father was assigned to an Armoured Brigade at Pathankot at the time of his birth. The infant was instantly called ‘VIJYANT’ after the army’s main combat tank. His uncle was also a top fighter pilot in Pathankot. Vijyant had always wished to join the Air Force or the Army.
